Stitch Sampling Class Series
In this project-based series of 4 classes you’ll learn about the concept of sampling and how it can be applied to stitch to help you get more creative use from your sewing machine, no matter what you use it for.
In class 1 you will be shown a systematic way of sampling your own sewing machine and then make a unique reference tool which you will use in the succeeding three classes.
In class 2 you will learn about different thread types, needle types and stabilisers. You will begin to consider design in embellishment, learn about stitch stacking and will embroider your own tea towel.
In class 3 you will learn about decorative machine stitch techniques and tools including machine feet and accessories. You will develop your understanding and use of design strategies and design an embroidered cushion cover panel. You will sew the panel and cushion cover.
In class 4 you will consider the uses for decorative stitch techniques, (including in garment-making), select a project (a pin cushion, card wallet or decorative greeting card), design the embellishment and complete the item.
Each class’s project is to be completed prior to the next class. There are three weeks between classes 1 and 2, and two weeks between classes after that. Completed projects will be shared at the beginning of each succeeding class, to allow all participants to share their knowledge and contribute their insights.
